The South End Global Youth Manufacturing Initiative Program

Over the past year, the LMW Group, Inc., has worked with and is currently collaborating with a team of workforce organizations and post-secondary institutions in addressing and closing the employment gap in manufacturing and the lack of essential employment skills of youths from low-income families and underserved groups in manufacturing.

The name of the LMW Group, Inc. program is the South End Global Manufacturing Initiative (SGMTI) and consist of representatives from school district 215, serving the villages in southern Cook County, South Suburban College, The Illinois Manufacturing Association, The Calumet Manufacturing Industry Sector Partnership, Industry Consortium for Advanced Technical Training (ICATT), and the Office of State Senator, Elgie Sims, all of which are shareholders in LMW Groups’ program.

LMW Group’s South End Global Manufacturing Initiative (SGMTI) goals for youth participants are to produce high school graduates with at least four manufacturing career pathways upon graduation; enrollment in an advanced manufacturing apprenticeship program in a community college, enter a four-year college or university manufacturing program, get an entry level manufacturing job, or pursue a manufacturing field in the military. Our South End Global Manufacturing Initiative program specific outcome is the exposure of our student participants to the opportunities to excel and experience areas of manufacturing technologies that will provide successful career paths.
